The easiest adult birthday in Memphis is a downtown block party you don’t have to drive around: book axe throwing lanes at 344 Floyd Alley, walk four minutes to Beale Street for barbecue and live blues, and finish at a taproom on South Main. 1. Book the lanes (the main event)

Memphis Escape Rooms - Downtown, 530 S Main St is about a 0.4-mile walk (roughly two minutes by car) and it’s the best second activity for a birthday group, because it splits people into teams and produces an argument you’ll retell for years.
Their downtown hours run Mon–Thu 12–10pm, Fri 12pm–midnight, Sat 10am–midnight, and Sun 1–10pm. Useful detail for birthdays: they offer custom weekday start times for groups of 10 or more, which solves the awkward gap between people getting off work and a dinner reservation. Axe throwing then escape room is the strongest one-two in downtown Memphis: about a ten-minute walk apart, both indoors, both timed so you can plan around them.
3. Eat on Beale (four minutes away)
Two Beale Street options, both about a four-minute walk from the lanes and neither used in our other Memphis guides:
Blues City Cafe, 138 Beale St - ribs, steak, and tamales with live blues, which is roughly the platonic Memphis birthday dinner. Their menu and reservations are on their site; they don’t publish hours, so call.
Alfred’s on Beale, 197 Beale St - Southern and American plates, live music, and a rooftop patio that’s the right call for a big table on a warm night. Their own site currently throws a certificate warning, so look them up on Google or Beale Street’s directory rather than typing the URL. Check current hours before you commit a group to it.
4. Do it in daylight at The Arcade
Not every adult birthday is a night out. The Arcade Restaurant, 540 S Main St is Memphis’s oldest café - open since 1919, breakfast served all day, Southern lunch plates, and daily 7am–3pm hours with lunch specials 11–2 and dinner specials Thursday through Saturday.
The reason it makes this list: a back room that seats up to 100 for private events, at café prices. For a brunch birthday, a milestone lunch, or a group that includes people who won’t be up past nine, it’s the best value downtown.
5. Finish at a taproom
Ghost River Brewing Co. - South Main Taproom, 827 S Main St is about a 13-minute walk (three minutes driving) and it’s the natural landing spot after throwing. Twelve ales on tap plus a full bar and an in-house kitchen, and the taproom can be reserved for private events if you want the birthday to have a home base.
Hours: closed Mondays, Tue–Thu 5–9:30pm, Fri 4–10pm, Sat 12–10pm, Sun 12–8pm. Note that Monday closure lines up with ours - Monday is simply a bad day for a downtown Memphis birthday.
6. Have dessert delivered
Skip the grocery-store sheet cake. Mempops makes popsicles locally, including boozy ones, and caters private events. Their shops are at Crosstown Concourse (1350 Concourse Ave, Suite 133) and East Memphis (1243 Ridgeway Rd) - neither is downtown, so treat this as a catering order rather than a stop on the walk. How to sequence a Saturday birthday
