Yes - you can drink while axe throwing at most venues, including every Craft Axe Throwing location: all ten of our venues have an on-site bar with cold craft beer on tap. The house rules are simple and universal: 21 and up with ID to drink, your drink stays behind the throwing line, and a coach supervises every lane.
The quick version:
- Drinking while axe throwing is normal - the “axe bar” is a whole category for a reason.
- You never throw with a drink in your hand. One thrower steps to the line at a time, holding nothing but the axe; drinks wait at your lane’s table.
- Coaches have the final say. Anyone who shouldn’t be throwing gets cut off from the lanes, no debate.
- No outside alcohol. The bar is on site; outside drinks stay home.
- Nobody has to drink. Sodas and water are always available, and the lanes stay open to younger throwers with an adult present.
Do axe throwing places serve alcohol?
Most do, but policies genuinely conflict across the industry - which is why search answers to this question contradict each other. Some venues don’t allow alcohol at all, some cap guests at two or three drinks, and some run full bars and rely on coach supervision. There is no universal rule; the venue’s policy is the policy.

What are the rules for drinking while axe throwing?
The rhythm at our lanes is throw, then sip - the same supervision system that makes axe throwing safe handles the alcohol question too:
- 21+ with a valid ID. Staff check at the bar, exactly like any other bar. Serving alcohol doesn’t make the venue 21-and-up - it makes the bar 21-and-up.
- Drinks stay behind the throwing line. Every lane has a table and seating for drinks and food; that’s where your beer lives while you throw. You step to the line empty-handed except for the axe.
- One thrower at a time. Everyone else - and everyone’s drinks - waits behind the line until the axe has landed.
- Coaches supervise every lane, all session. They teach the throw, watch the group, and will end the lane time of anyone who’s had too much. It’s the least negotiable rule in the building.
Can you bring your own alcohol (BYOB)?
Not at our venues. A few axe throwing venues elsewhere run BYOB models, but at Craft Axe Throwing the bar is on site and outside drinks stay home - that applies to walk-in sessions and private events alike, and it’s how we keep the supervision rules enforceable.
Food is the opposite story: outside food is welcome. We don’t serve food, so bring your own feast, order delivery, or coordinate catering for a party - tell us ahead of time and we’ll set up tables before your group arrives. That combination (your food, our bar) is a big part of why parties and corporate events are most of what we host, and why event hosts get group-tab tools like custom drink tickets with control over the number, price, and type of drinks.
What does the World Axe Throwing League say about alcohol?
The WATL rulebook pledge puts the call where it belongs: throwers agree not to use alcohol unless the venue permits it. So in sanctioned league play at a venue with a bar - like ours - a drink during league night is within the rules, while unsafe throwing of any kind remains an automatic disqualification. The sport’s governing body and the venues land in the same place: moderate drinking and supervised throwing coexist fine.
Do you have to drink to go axe throwing?
Not at all. Sodas and bottled water are on every menu, plenty of groups throw dry, and the activity itself is the draw - coached, competitive, and family-friendly during the day. Kids and teens can throw with an adult present (age minimums vary by venue - our age requirements guide has the breakdown), and designated drivers get the same lanes, coaching, and trash-talk rights as everyone else.
